Analogue professions digitized: The home office for outdoor professionals

For most office workers, working from home has become an integral part of their professional lives. But there are tasks that you can't do from the couch, or can you?

Ericsson and Skogforsk, the Swedish Forest Research Institute, are running 5G pilot projects that connect forest workers to forests hundreds of kilometers away.

Petrus Jönsson, Deputy Program Manager at Skogforsk, says: “Teleoperation can increase efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of the forest industry. It can also fundamentally improve the working environment for operators, reduce the number of accidents and increase interest in forestry professions.”

For remote management to work safely in a forestry environment, a high transmission speed of video in real time, low latency and high reliability in different types of terrain and weather conditions are required.

Today, WiFi is used to a limited extent. With 5G, however, significantly better ranges and performance can be achieved. This gives the forestry industry access to modern communication to take the next step in digitalization.

We see an exciting development of new advanced applications for 5G in the industry. #digitalization #business location
